The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers partners with art institutes, colleges and universities to earmark scholarships for college-bound Scholastic Contest Award recipients. To participate in the Awards, you must be a student in grades 7–12, age 13 years or older, and (a) residing in the United States, U.S. territories, or Canada, or (b) enrolled in an accredited American School in the rest of the world. A submission fee ($5 per individual and $20 per portfolio) is required but can be waived if it is a barrier to applying.
Three different writing scholarships opportunities exist:
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers awards nearly $300,000 in direct scholarships annually to top Awards recipients. They also partner with art institutes, colleges, and universities who earmark scholarships for college-bound Scholastic Awards recipients.
The Scholastic Awards Summer Scholarship program provides opportunities for talented students with financial need to attend creative, pre-college programs all over the country during the summer.
Additionally, each year five students who have been recognized through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are selected for one year of service as literary ambassadors through the National Student Poets Program.
Writing categories include: Critical Essay Dramatic Script Flash Fiction Humor Journalism Novel Writing Personal Essay & Memoir Poetry Science Fiction & Fantasy Short Story Writing Portfolio (graduating seniors only)
