From the Fairview Parent Organization

The FPO (Fairview Parent Organization) is putting together goodie bags to present to the Fairview teachers at their annual Holiday Tea on December 8th. If you own a local business or know some who does and would like to donate a little something for the 130 bags we are putting together please contact Renae Foxhoven ([email protected]). Some of the items we have already collected are holiday cards from Leanin' Tree, a small utility tool, Ozo coffee, Celestial Seasonings Tea.

COUNSELING WEBSITE DETAILS: Have you ever hovered over the red banner at the top of the counseling page? The latest research from our College & Career Center team can found on the webpages. This week explore the “Paying for College” menu (6th tab) for a detailed breakdown of information on financial options, scholarships and other tips.

ARE YOU FILLING OUT THE FAFSA SOON? See the video How to fill out the FAFSA, and get information on the CSS profile here. Specific scholarships are listed on our pages as well: https://www.fairviewhs.org/counseling/paying-for-college/scholarships.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT NETWORK PRESENTATION: “Raising Resilient Girls” presentation is Monday, 12/05/2016, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm at BCSIS, 3995 East Aurora Ave., Boulder. See more information on the event here. View the complete PEN schedule of events here.

SENIORS AND PARENTS: Visit your FHS counselors on Thursday during CAT 11:05-11:45a, in the CCC for one-to-one help with college applications. You may still have questions about the college application process. Please refer to the very detailed article on our website titled, Applying to College. See an information summary of Common App, Coalition app and direct apps here. For choosing and comparing colleges, go to our researching and comparing colleges page.

See our NEW video “Requesting your transcripts” for info on filling out your Green Sheet. If you need to request counselor letter of recommendation there are additional steps of completing the parent brag sheet and student questionnaire or reflection letter on Naviance. Parents email [email protected], if you need help with your brag sheet/Naviance access. Please note the Common Application DOES require a letter of recommendation from the Counselor, and may also require one or two teacher letters as well. Many schools using direct (non-common app) applications ask for only a teacher letter of rec, not counselor letter. For specific instructions on the Common Application, the Coalition Application or other school specific applications see our new step-by-step application reference guide for help. For all college applications needing a letter of rec from your counselor, you must meet the following request deadlines:

VISIT THE FHS COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER (CCC): For more help with scholarships, internships, study abroad, summer programs, travel programs, jobs, and alternatives to college; visit with our awesome volunteer team in the CCC during school hours, or email Carol Diebel at [email protected] for an appointment.

TESTS: ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Exams and TEST PREP: General information about the nature and recommended timing for taking these tests is listed in articles on our website. In addition, specific information and links are included for ACT testing dates and registration, SAT and SAT Subject Exam dates and registration, Test-Prep information and Resources. See “Applying for College” and “Test Information” under the College Application tab at http://www.fairviewhs.org/counseling.

COLLEGE REP VISITS TO FAIRVIEW THIS YEAR: (ON-CAMPUS at Fairview!!!) College representative visits at Fairview continue throughout the year. Most of the presentations take place in the College/Career Center, in the Counseling Office. Junior and Senior students can attend during a class period ONLY if they have received permission from their teachers. Sophomore and Freshmen students may attend only during free class periods. Coming to these visits will help students become more familiar with the variety of campuses and allow them to meet with reps who will be reading their applications. The college rep visit calendar is posted on our website. When students list the colleges they are considering on their Naviance software account, they will automatically receive an email about when reps from those colleges are coming to Fairview.

Please visit our website (http://www.fairviewhs.org/counseling) and spend time getting to know the variety and depth of information that has been provided for you. We would enjoy receiving your feedback by responding to: [email protected] or calling 720-561-5860.
