Team Update- Sunday May 24th

Posted on May 24, 2021

Hello team! We had two amazing track meets this past week that deserve recognition for all of the amazing performances. We have a smaller team this year, but we are definitely NOT short on dedication, desire to improve and packed full of awesomeness! There are several athletes that have a solid shot at competing in the State Meet at the end of the season!!

Check out the photos taken by Coach Kirk! Click here for the Wednesday B-Town Mid Week photos! Click here for the Saturday Centaurus Twilight photos! You are welcome to download whatever images you like!! If you have any amazing pictures of any of our athletes, we'd love for you to download them into the albums as well. We will do an end of season slideshow and we like to make sure all athletes are represented!!

Coming up this week: We have the Pomona Invite track meet on Friday night and Saturday morning that will be hosted at Jeffco Stadium. This is a high end varsity meet only accepting two entries per event, plus relays. We will do our best to get as many kids as possible to this meet, but we are limited.

ATHLETES ~ you must communicate with your coach by Wednesday on your desire to compete. SPRINTERS - I will be out Tuesday and potentially Wednesday, so I would love to talk to all of my Varsity crew on Monday if possible.

Schedule of events and general info for Pomona is here.

Practices will run as usual this week: Monday 3-4 weight room, 4-5:30pm track Tues - Thur - 4-5:30pm track, Thurs 5:30-6:30 weight room School is out on Friday and we have an evening meet - I will communicate before this date if there will be a JV level practice and when it will be.

In other news:

Many of you have asked about practice time after school is out and here is what we have: Every day - Monday thru Friday at the track 9-10:30am Weight room workouts will be added once we can secure a time in the schedule.

The next JV meet will be on Tuesday, June 1st in Longmont.

After this weekend, we have the Varsity level BoCo Championships in Longmont on Saturday, June 5th. This is a meet that we typically approach with the team standing in mind. JV squad should be ready to possibly be asked to step up and help us load the events!

I hope all of you were able to get out and enjoy this beautiful CO weekend at some point! We are over half way through our season at this point!! Let's continue to work hard and see what you can do!! See ya tomorrow!

Team Update- May 17th

Posted on May 17, 2021

Hello Team! It was so fun watching you at the track meet this weekend!! So many amazing performances!! For your viewing pleasure:

Pictures from the meet can be found here and here.

Results from the meet can be found at Rapid Results Live.

This next week, we have two meets: JV Meet at Broomfield on Wednesday, May 19th beginning at 3:30pm. Check out the info here.

We are responsible for running the girls and boys discus event. I will need 3-4 volunteers to assist with this event! It's easy and fun! Please reach out to let me know if you are able to help at this meet!

We will have to enter athletes into this meet on Monday, so please talk to your coach on Monday if you'd like to participate. We hope that anyone that was unable to compete on this past Saturday, will compete in this upcoming Wednesday track meet!

Varsity Meet at Centaurus on Saturday, May 22nd beginning at 12 noon. Check out the schedule and the meet info.

We are responsible for running the boys triple jump at this meet. I will need at least 4 volunteers for this meet - wind gauge reader, caller, measurer and raker. Please reach out to let me know if you are able to help at this meet!

Entries are due on Wednesday evening for this meet, so please discuss with your coach what you'd like to compete in asap, so we don't miss anyone. ALL athletes should be able to compete this week as long as you:

1) Are academically eligible.

2) Have paid for the season:

Girls Track

Boys Track

3) Have turned in your Code of Conduct form.

4) Have turned in your Transportation Waiver.

Please return all forms to [email protected]. You can scan the forms into her, take a picture and email or hand deliver a hard copy! They MUST be in this week or you will not be able to compete!

Practice Plan this week: Monday, 5/17, we do not have access to the track due to another event. The lifting will occur at the same time: 3:00-4:00pm and the team will meet at the horseshoe at 4:00pm for regular practice. It is once again supposed to be raining, so look for a REMIND text or email to direct you elsewhere if needed. We will keep practice at the regular time this week, since it has caused some difficulties with transportation for some of our families.

Athletes ONLY - to register for the REMIND texts for last minute directions/changes, please text @eec2cf6 to 81010.

The remainder of the week, we'll be meeting at the 4:00-5:30pm practice time. On Wednesday, those not participating in the track meet will still have practice. We will split our coaching squad that day to make sure everyone stays on track (pun fully intended).

The Spring weather in Colorado is not disappointing us and keeping us on our toes, so once again, sign up for the REMIND text and/or check your emails before practice every day to see if the weather has forced us to an indoor location.

One final note, thank you so much to the coaches, athletes and parents for supporting our team and me. I've had so much outreach this season to assist with different tasks and I really do appreciate each and every offer, gesture and thoughts! Let's get ready for another amazing week! Go Knights!

Team Update- Monday, May 10th

Posted on May 10, 2021

Practice Plans:

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be snowing and cold, so I'm working on getting the gym again to start off the week. I haven't heard back yet, so look for an email and Remind text message to verify sometime Monday morning. Some groups might still go outside, so dress appropriately and wear layers.

To sign up for the text messages with the Remind app (athletes ONLY) - click here!

Monday would be 3-5pm practice

Tuesday would be the regular 4-5:30pm

The remainder of the week looks fine, so we'd be at the track 4-5:30pm

Upcoming Meet: Saturday, May 15th - Lyons Invite @ Centaurus HS

Entry deadline for competition is Wednesday, May 12th after practice - please communicate with your coach on what you'd like to run BEFORE Wednesday! We are allowed 4 athletes in individual running events, 3 athletes in field events and 1 relay per relay event. This is a Varsity level meet. Athletes, talk with your coaches to find out if this is a meet you will be competing in!

The Schedule for the meet is here.

Miscellaneous Items: There are still 14 people that have not filled out their Transportation Waiver for the season. This allows you to drive to the competitions with your family and not take transportation provided by bvsd. Since we are not offering a bus this track season (for the time being), this must be filled out BEFORE you are allowed to compete! Form is here! Scroll to the 3rd page already filled out for T&F, print it, sign your name and return a photo to Cathy Kakavas at [email protected].

For up to date info, please keep an eye on our website: Pictures from the meet, courtesy of Coach Kirk Johnson, are located on the Photo Album tab. Fairview's team has some amazing hair! Take a peek, they are great!!

Results from the meets will always be posted on Milesplit. Here are the official results from Friday.

Important Update! All Competing Athletes Must Read!

Hello team! A few quick notes about week one so far:

Thank you to everyone that worked through the line up at photos today before workouts began. There were about 10 kids missing and the photographer is willing to do a make-up one week from today at 4:00pm. Thursday, May 6th 4pm. If you would like to be in the team photo, bring your singlet on Thursday and she'll add you in the shot.

If you borrowed a singlet today and accidentally went home with it, please bring it back tomorrow. We have a few kids that have paid for their jersey and it is now missing.

This waiver form that needs to be signed and returned to [email protected] before the meet on Tuesday. The attachment has all four Season D sports, just go to the third page (Track & Field), sign and scan & send back to Cathy.

I will have the sign up clipboards for the next week Tuesday and Friday track meets at practice tomorrow and Saturday. Please let me know which meet you are interested in and what you would like to compete in. I need to get most of the entries done this weekend. Remember, you must have attended and participated in 5 practices before you can compete. If you will be there this week, then you can do the Tuesday meet. If you have had to miss a day or two, then Friday might work better for you. You do NOT need to do both.

That does mean that YES, we will have a practice on Saturday!! Distance will be meeting at Manhattan and sprint/field will be meeting at Fairview. We will start at 9am!!

I do still have a few singlets for sale if anyone is in need. They are $38 and checks need to be made out to Fairview Track. I will be at the Runners Roost store all day on Saturday 10-6pm and can help you out then.

I think that's about it! I will be sending out the meet schedule for both Tues and Fri this weekend with the entries that I have collected. Tuesday Centaurus meet begins at 3:00pm and Friday Broomfield meet begins at 3:30pm. I currently have two volunteers for the discus event on Tuesday, but would love to get 2 more if possible. Let's Go Knights!

Team Update- Sunday, April 25th

Posted on April 26, 2021

Hello team! We get to officially start our long-awaited track season Monday!! This message is loaded with pertinent information, so please read thoroughly and watch the video!

Practice schedule through the end of May: Weight room days: Monday's @ 3:00pm & Thursday's @ 5:30pm Running days: Monday - Friday @ 4:00-5:30pm

You are expected to attend every practice to be prepared for the intensity of the season demands, unless otherwise pre-approved with your coach!

Meet schedule: CHSAA will be releasing more information on guidelines for the season on the evening of Monday, April 26th.There will be a Front Range League Mtg on Tuesday, April 27th to determine the schedule for the season. We will be allowed 8 meets, plus League and State. More information to come.

Eligibility Requirements: See video for more details. Must be taking 5 classes between Q3 and Q4. Must have passing grades in order to compete. If you have two F's in Q3, you will not be eligible to compete the entire season. More details in video about a variety of circumstances.

Safety: At this time, we are still in level blue. This means athletes/coaches are not required to wear masks outside as long as athletes can maintain 6 ft distance while working out. When we are meeting as a group or inside (warm-up, core, team mtg, weight lifting, etc), masks will need to be worn. We are now allowed to have up to 50 athletes in the weight room. If the numbers increase and we exceed this limit on our weight room days, we will split the groups and add in more options. Typically not all athletes will attend the weight lifting time slots, but it is HIGHLY encouraged. You will become stronger, faster and less likely for injury during the season if you build a base and maintain that throughout the season.

Requirements to attend practice: You must have turned in your registration forms and current physical!! If you are not on our list from the athletic office by practice time on Monday, you will NOT be allowed to practice. This is not negotiable!! It's a huge liability!! For each and every practice, you must fill out the COVID screener that is separate from the one you fill out to attend in-person learning at school. Bookmark this and use it daily.

There will be a few more forms to fill out once we get the completed version of them from the District: Code of Conduct, travel waiver, etc. I will send those out as soon as I receive them and will need them returned back before the first meet.

Team Photos on Thursday, April 29th @ 4:00pm!! We will have team photos on Thursday at the track! Our photographer is going to put together a composite for all of you. This means she will take an individual picture of each of you without your mask on and then she'll put it all together into a team photo. This will comply with our mask-mandate requirement while in close proximity to one another. She will also do this for the seniors. You are welcome to stage any individual shot you'd like as well - hurdles, throws, PV, blocks, etc.

Order form for the track photos can be found here!! Please consider a photo this year!! Our photographer is going to great lengths to make this a great experience for you and give you an excellent end product!

Print off the order form and bring to practice with payment on Thursday!! Wear your uniform!! If you do not have one, you can share with a friend since we are all taking individual shots.

One more week to go!!

Team Update - Friday, April 9th

Posted on April 11, 2021

Hello team!

We only have two weeks left of pre-season before the official season kicks in on April 26th! This opens up our practices to 5 days a week and with the mask mandate lifting for our area, we can also breathe a little bit easier in practice.

Please note that if we are meeting in smaller groups or standing around closely with one another, you will still be asked to wear your mask. You are still required to wear your mask inside the school as well, so if we are in the fitness center for strength training, the mask needs to be worn. Otherwise, while running the workout outside, feel free to lower your mask and breathe freely!

I will still have a 'signupgenius' sign-up for the workouts the next few weeks to keep an eye on numbers, but once the season begins you won't have to do that part any more. There will be something different for attendance once the season begins. You are still required to complete the COVID screener each and every practice however. This is separate from the one you fill out for attending in-class sessions at school.

A few more announcements: There will be some new coaching faces attending practices this next week. Please introduce yourselves and welcome the new coaches to the team. I will be out for a surgery from Wed, April 14th through the start of the season, so these new coaches will be taking care of you and providing awesome workouts! The District has still not opened up registration for the track season, but to get a jump start, please forward your current physical to [email protected]. This will speed up the registration process since it does appear as if they will be waiting until the very last minute. I attended a CHSAA informational call last night and they did confirm that we will be able to attend 8 meets, plus State. It wasn't overly clear if the 8 also included League, but I will find out soon. The schedule has also NOT been set yet, but as soon as they give us guidelines on numbers of teams/athletes/spectators at a given meet, we will race to get everything set (yes, pun intended). I'm not sure if I'll be up for sending out an email this next weekend, so just in case, I've included links to sign up for practices for the next two weeks.

Preseason Wk 9 April 12 - 16 - CLICK HERE (make sure you look at dates & locations)

Preseason Wk 10 April 19 - 23 - CLICK HERE (make sure you look at dates & locations)

COVID SCREENER - required for every day you attend a track practice!!

If there are any concerns that do come up over the next few weeks, feel free to email me, but please remember that I won't be responding quickly. The other coaches are there to help and answer questions as they can. I will send out emails with more information as soon as I receive it.

See you all soon!

Track Registration Is Open!

Posted on April 13, 2021

Hello team! I'm excited to forward on the forms needed to register for track...finally!! Please fill out all of the attached forms and return to [email protected]. There will NOT be green slips like in years past, but we will receive a google doc with everyone that has officially registered. If your name is not on the list by April 26th, you won't be able to join practice until the paperwork is complete.

There will be one more step to the process. Once Cathy receives your registration forms, she will send out the code of conduct and payment request form as a follow up.

As a final reminder, I will not be available for the next week or two due to a surgery. Please reach out to the other coaches with any questions that you have. If you email me, I won't be able to respond for at least a week.

Thank you all and I'll see you soon!

Distance coaches providing individual workouts during COVID-19

Posted on March 17, 2020

In an attempt to have your coaches stay connected and engaged with each of you we are excited to roll out a new coaching platform called Final Surge. The plan was to start this next summer but given the changes we moved that up and we are ready to go. It has many great features, we are certain you will find it easy to use and a wonderful tool to help you with your training. In brief we will be able to share your training schedule via a calendar with detailed daily instructions, the opportunity to upload your Garmin or Strava data, include post workout comments, notify us of injuries and share photos with each other. There is also a mobile APP that has all the same interface and makes is really easy to view your schedule and provide updates to your coaches. The goal is to use this as an online Training Log. We will be pushing this heavily moving forward so start getting in the routine now. It is really easy to check off if you completed a session and add comments right in the app.

It is really important that all of you that are running track follow the steps below, this is how we will be sharing all of your training moving forward! It is super easy and will only take 3 minutes so do it today!

STEP 1: You should receive an email with an invitation to join the Fairview Team powered by Final Surge. If you do not receive an email by this evening, please let me know.

STEP 2: Follow the link and create a FREE account.

STEP 3: Once you have your account created you will be able to view your schedule for the week. We will be providing different schedules based on the events you are training for. Each day there are suggested distances and workout variations depending on your level.

STEP 4: Download the FINAL SURGE APP in the Apple App Store or Google Play. Once you download the app use your same Login that you already created to sign into the APP. Be sure to ALLOW NOTIFICATION. This will be how you receive daily notification of your training for the day.

From there you can play around with the interface.
Here is a short VIDEO with highlights Detailed Daily Schedule: Each type of workout is color coded and each day has specific instructions. Scroll over the workout to see all the details.
Post workout we really encourage you to add comments and check the "Completion" "How You Felt" and "Perceived Effort" tabs. This will help your coaches ensure everything is going to plan and adjust as we go.
Coaches will get notification when you add comments so we can stay in touch easily via the app. It is basically like being able to text but right in the app. Coaches can run reports to see how everyone is progressing......so... we will be keeping tabs on who is really doing the work! If you use a Garmin or Stava it is really easy to upload the Data to that specific workout: GARMIN/STAVA Interface We can embed videos on the FILES and RESOURCES Section, there is already two videos in there.....Coach Tricia's CORE Routine and a video about the power of exercise on the brain.
Once we are allowed to meet again in person, coaches will be able to add Locations to workouts or long runs and include a map and address. This will be really great in the summer.
There is also a Social Wall feature that is really great. It is basically our own Fairview Instagram type board where you can post pictures, post your workout, talk about a cool run you did, encourage each other, etc.

Looking for a way to stay active and fight boredom?

Posted on March 16, 2020

We're now posting some suggested workouts to the Team Calendar and also in the new Individual Workouts page.
