My name is Stephanie "Essie" Hengeveld, and I am a special education teacher at Fairview. Come find me in our brand new classroom! Starting this year, I'll be using a google classroom site to upload my daily powerpoints, and significant class assignments. Guardians can gain access to the site after their student accepts the invitation that has been emailed to them.
About me: I have a bachelor's degree in Economics and Psychology from Scripps College in Claremont, CA. From there, I attended Portland State University in Oregon, and earned a Master's in Education and certification to teach social studies and special education. I have been teaching in special education ever since. As a result of my work in self-contained classrooms for students with emotional and behavioral challenges, I am a supporter of the Collaborative Problem Solving philosophy. I am also a school-based facilitator for our RISE program, a collaboration between CU, Kaiser and BVSD to increase social/emotional skills among teachers and staff.
