Welcome to Scott Peoples' IB History of the Americas class page!

Students who enroll in this class must be independent learners capable of using an advanced text, and their academic skills should be above grade level. This is a fast-paced course focusing on political, social, economic, military, ideological, and cultural concepts in the history of the Western Hemisphere from the rise of the Aztecs and Incas through the Spanish conquests of Mexico and Peru; in the second quarmester, topics in 19th and 20th century Latin American and Canadian history will be explored. The intent of this course is to prepare seniors for the academic and intellectual rigors of history studies at the collegiate level, as well as for the IB SL and HL History Exams. In class, the focus will be on writing and historical analysis, utilizing a variety of measures including an IB Internal Assessment research paper. (continued)

Dear Historians,

Welcome to a much-abbreviated version of IB History of the Americas!

It's far less than ideal, but meeting as an Independent Study group will at least allow you to prepare for the IB HL Exams in History. It will also allow you to pursue your own interests in Latin American and/or Canadian history, free from my obsession with indigenous Mesoamerican societies and the early Spanish Colonial period.
