IB History of the Americas
IB History of the Americas utilizes a “case study” approach to examine historical topics and techniques applicable to three distinct periods in the history of the Western Hemisphere. Each of these case studies will take place over approximately one trimester (10-12 weeks); this year, the topics studied will consist of European Explorations and Conquests, 1492-1600; Emergence of the Americas in Global Affairs, 1880-1929; and The Americas, 1980-2005. The intent of this class is to prepare IB Diploma candidates for the HL Exams in History, but non-IB students who are interested in the subject matter and are not averse to a heavy reading load and doing in-depth research and thinking are enthusiastically invited to take on the challenge. The course is focused on writing and historical analysis, and will utilize a variety of assessments including an in-depth Internal Assessment research paper.
